The Edge, U2’s guitarist, updated the band’s fans with some serious news about frontman Bono’s fragile health status on Wednesday.

Bono was injured in a serious bicycle accident in November, requiring a five-hour surgery, as initially reported by the Inquisitr . Bono suffered an injury to his eye socket, left arm, and much more. His extensive injuries were explained and compared to the results of a “car crash” by the Edge.

“He actually showed us an X-Ray a couple of days later, and it looked like a miniature of the Eiffel Tower was in his elbow. And then the same had to happen with a fracture of his pinky; the joint there was totally messed up, so that needed a bone graft. And the most vulnerable was actually his upper back, the scapula, because they couldn’t put any plates in there or they decided not to do surgery.”

The Edge called into WROQ’s Kevin & Bean Show to announce that U2 would no longer be able to perform at the 25th Annual KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas show due to the injuries Bono suffered in the freak bicycle accident.

The Edge wanted everyone to know how Bono felt over having to cancel the band’s appearance at the Christmas show.

“He’s so upset about the fact that unfortunately as we’re about to announce, we’re not going to be able to do the Acoustic Christmas. He’s been told by his doctors to stay put. He’s back in Dublin right now and he basically can’t move for the next couple of months.”

The U2 guitarist could still joke about Bono’s unfortunate accident and is happy his friend is on the road to recovery. “We’re kind of lucky he was wearing a helmet, so he didn’t actually break Central Park. He’s made of tough stuff and he’s bouncing back.”

According to Rolling Stone , Bono is expected to continue healing and to make a full recovery by May in time for U2’s 19-city world tour . In the meantime, Bono is undergoing physiotherapy “to keep the joints active twice a day,” according to the U2 guitarist.

On Monday, U2 played in Times Square with Bruce Springsteen and Coldplay’s Chris Martin filling in on vocals. However, instead of playing as “U2,” they played as “ U2 Minus 1 .” The Edge explained that it felt like they were “cheating on Bono” even though it was “an amazing experience.”
