Terminator Genisys To Be ‘Intelligent, Heart-Felt Love Story’

Terminator Genisys will try to stand out from the pack next summer by reviving a decades-old franchise for the second time in less than five years. This new Terminator flick, though, may be taking a different tack from previous entries, with one of the film’s actors saying that we can expect a more heart-felt killer cyborg movie this time around.

Actor J.K. Simmons will be appearing in Terminator Genisys alongside Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney, and Arnold Schwarzenegger when the movie launches next summer, and Simmons sat down with ComingSoon in order to spill what few beans he could on the new Terminator movie.

“It’s a gigantic movie,” Simmons said, hopefully in the tone of his take on J. Jonah Jameson, “and that was such a surprise when they sent that to me and asked me to do it. I thought, ‘Well, obviously it’s a gigantic movie and on that level, it’s something most actors would want to be a part of, but is it just going to be the formulaic yadda-yadda-yadda then cut to the stuff blowing up?’”

Terminator Genisys , though, will be low on the yadda-yadda and the formulae, according to Simmons.

“I found the script to be really much more intelligent and fun and funny and well-rounded and heart-felt,” Simmons continued. “It’s a love story. It’s a really interesting script.”

Simmons went on to praise the big names in Genisys , calling them “great actors” and saying that the new Terminator movie was “really a fun thing to be a part of.”

ComingSoon probed to see if Simmons would reveal any details of Terminator Genisys , but Simmons wasn’t exactly forthcoming.

“I felt I could give too much away,” Simmons said when asked which actors he had worked with, “by saying that I get to work with all those actors, but people know the characters that they’re playing, so it was a lot of fun and I look forward to sequels to that one.”

Asked if he had just confirmed that his character will live through Terminator Genisys to appear in the already scheduled Terminator sequels , Simmons corrected his interviewer.

“No, I didn’t say I look forward to being in the sequels,” he said. “Maybe I was just looking forward to watching the sequels.”

Whether Simmons’ character lives through the next Terminator reboot or not, the franchise is up against some stiff competition next summer. Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron will likely rule the box office for some time, and the late summer will see Fox’s Fantastic Four reboot trying to make that franchise finally take off. Terminator Genisys hits theaters in between those two on July 1, 2015 but it will still have quite a bit of competition, as even more movies are sure to be jostling for attention at the same time.
