The latest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows trailer has the turtles going for the groin.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was a massively popular TV show in the 90s, spawning a toy line and three movies before being redone a few times for successive generations. It was an instant classic with its ridiculous premise and goofy humor in the midst of predictable fight scenes, but it was so memorable and different, it was a pop culture sensation . Ask almost anyone who watched cartoons in that era who the Shredder is, and watch their eyes light up with nostalgia.
The films based on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were equally goofy, though certain characters like Casey Jones were toned down, probably to maintain a rating suitable for children. They drew enough of an audience that we didn’t mind Vanilla Ice blatantly plugging himself in TMNT II: The Secret of the Ooze .
Then came the videogames. TMNT has had some great ones and some massive disappointments, from the four player arcade game to the “WTF?” inducing NES game, and the equally terrible HD remake of the four player arcade game.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows appears to be retaining the sarcastic humor Raphael brought to the original show, according to a new game trailer.
The trailer begins with a graffiti-style orange stripe across the screen and a pair of white eyes appearing in the middle of it. We then see Michaelangelo laying the smack down on a foot clan soldier with his nunchucks, and then fighting a string of what look like dark turtles with slow-motion and ripple-air effects.
A few seconds later, he swipes down at the screen as another graffiti-style stripe appears with the name Michaelangelo written through it in white. After the fighting resumes, we see Michaelangelo kicking a white-clad enemy in the nuts. He does a little more fighting and then we see him dancing.
It looks like TMNT: Out of the Shadows is bringing back the cocky attitudes of the infamous four.
