A man named Nic Vargus is going viral on Saturday, all because of his Twitter wish to dress like a ninja turtle on his wedding day. On Twitter, Vargus spelled out his wishes, and by the time Seth Rogen retweeted them, Nic was well over his 100,000 retweets requirement set by his girlfriend. The ironic thing about the whole Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle tweet is that Nic admits he first did it as a joke, reports the Washington Post .

As of Saturday, August 29, at 3:00 p.m. ET, Nic has garnered more than 123,000 retweets.

“ Cowabunga! ” That’s the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles catchphrase shouted by the Telegraph , harkening back to Vargus’ wedding wish win and the TMNT phase many went through during their childhoods.

Vargus and his girlfriend, Lindsey Oakes, were interviewed by Today , and they both appeared to be blown away by all the attention. While the San Francisco couple seemed to be prepared for a set-up or a surprise marriage proposal, Vargus didn’t have a ring or a question to pop on Lindsey during the interview. Instead, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle wedding fan explained his love of the franchise.

“I really, truly do love the Ninja Turtles.”

While wedding themes have run the gamut, there typically aren’t a ton of ninja turtle grooms on Pinterest. Perhaps Vargus might snag a deal with the copyright owners of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle brand to get them to sponsor the wedding. The 27-year-old writer is no stranger to tech or promotional matters, as Vargus previously worked at IGN and is now a writer for Apple.

Eventually, Vargus and his girlfriend agreed to go along with the joke Vargus tweeted in the first place, as the couple has agreed to consider sticking to their Ninja Turtle wedding gear, if they indeed get married someday.

Part of the success of Vargus’ Twitter campaign was that it seemingly represented an average, everyday man — not named Joe but named Nic — who reached out to a vast social space on the internet to help him convince his fiancée to go along with his wild wedding attire selection. Since dressing up as a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle for his wedding seemed to be an honest desire for Vargus, it didn’t take much for Twitter fans who wanted to help him out to send a retweet.
