A fifteen-year-old boy in St. Paul, Minnesota used Facebook cleverly to summon police for his mother surreptitiously without making a noisy phone call.
The teen’s mom explains how a 2 AM status update during a violent domestic incident involving 31-year-old Reggie LeAndrew Hart saved her:
“(My son) was trying to think how he could get the police here,” said the victim, Kelly Heinl, 33. She said he wrote, “Would somebody please call 911 — my mom’s boyfriend won’t let her use the phone.”He accidentally attached smiley faces to the first one he sent, his mother said. Then he deleted the symbols and wrote, “This is serious.”
Hart, also known as Reggie Campbell, was charged with interfering with a 911 call and domestic assault following the incident. He had been previously convicted on the 1998 murder of the boy’s father Willie Campbell, as well as a domestic assault back in 2009. He is currently being held on $18,000 bail.
The boy’s mother said of the incident:
“I’m very proud of him,” Heinl said. “I don’t know that I would necessarily have thought of that.”
Hart told police that the incident was due to Heinl’s drinking, and denies the allegations of violence.
