Selena Gomez debuted the video to her hotly anticipated single, “Bad Liar” yesterday. There was a whole lot of Selena in it, with her playing four characters to be exact, but fans quickly realised that her bestie, Taylor Swift, also made it into the final cut.
In order to see Taylor in the video, fans have to have a keen eye, but thanks to the Internet, many have spotted the Easter Egg.
During the final scene of the video, Selena Gomez, playing the high school version of herself, dances around in her 1970s bedroom. Behind her are period posters and photos, but one is different than the other. As Charlie’s Angels was huge at the time, predictably, there would be a a poster of the TV show. However, fans have noticed that the lead angel’s photo isn’t iconic Farrah Fawcett, but instead the modern icon, and Selena’s BFF, Taylor Swift.
Although the other two angels are not as clear, it is guessed that they are Selena Gomez’s other pals, Lorde and Demi Lovato.
The video itself has a total 1970s vibe, and has a sample track from 1977 classic, “Psycho Killer” by The Talking Heads. In the video, Selena Gomez tackles the role of not one, but four different people.
Despite the Taylor Swift appearance, Vanity Fair has called the video exceptionally confusing. This is because Selena Gomez portrays every single main character in the narrative. During the video, she plays a young high school student (and she does look very young!), both of her parents and a teacher she and her father are both crushing on. The story relies on a young high school student who is obsessed with what appears to be her gym teacher (Selena Gomez in a Farrah Fawcett wig). It also seems her father works at the school as well, and is obsessed with the same woman. Later on in the video, Selena portrays her mother, who notices that something is off about her father (portrayed rather awkwardly by Selena as well).
However confusing the video’s narrative is, it is no doubt an exceptionally catchy tune, despite the critical response to the video.
