A power outage during Super Bowl XLVII delayed the big game for over half an hour Sunday.
NFL officials said that a “power surge” knocked out power at the New Orleans Superdome early in the third quarter.
Entergy, the power company for the Superdome, said that power issues appeared to be on the stadium’s side.
According to CBC , the majority of the lights in the stadium went out shortly after Jacoby Jones returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown with 13:22 left in the third quarter. The public address announcer said the stadium was experiencing an interruption of electrical service.
Officials and stadium personnel met on the field to discuss the outage. The lights remained off for 35 minutes with everything from hallway and locker room lights to scoreboards affected by the outage.
Twitter exploded during the outage and, within minutes, an account was created for the blackout.

At the time of this writing, the Baltimore Ravens led the San Francisco 49ers 31-29. 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick scored a 15-yard touchdown — the longest by a quarterback in Super Bowl history — shortly after a field goal by Baltimore. After failing to make the 2 point conversion, Baltimore led 31-29. The 49ers failed to score with 9:57 left in the fourth quarter.
