‘Suicide Squad’ After-Credits Scene: What Surprise Is Waiting At The Very End Of The Super-Villain Movie?

Does Suicide Squad have an after-credits scene?

With the precedent being set for superhero movies to include a scene hidden after all the credits have finished, many fans are expecting this week’s new installment to the DC Cinematic Universe to include one as well. That was certainly the case in the previous Marvel movies, which used not one but two scenes during the credits to wrap up some plot lines and introduce future characters.

The DC movies have been bucking that trend, however. The recently released Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice had no after-credits scene, for example.

Though there was no end-credits scene in the superhero epic, director Zack Snyder did release a deleted scene that he said was originally meant to show after all the credits had rolled, Slash Film noted.

So will there be an after-credits scene in Suicide Squad ? Technically, the answer is no. In press screenings of the movie, there was nothing after all the credits had rolled, but there was a scene inserted midway through the credits, taking place after the stylized beginning of the credits and before traditional black-and-white credits started, Slash Film reported.

For viewers anxious to wait until the end of Suicide Squad to see what the scene entails, We Got This Covered offered a spoiler on the scene.

“The scene has Bruce Wayne talking to Amanda Waller in her office, getting dossier files on the members of the Justice League he’s trying to round up in exchange for using his influence to help cover up the damage to the city that the Suicide Squad causes while going after Enchantress. They both have dirt on each other, though. When he leaves, he makes a crack about friendship. She says, ‘I don’t believe in friendship, I believe in leverage.’ He looks at her and she follows, ‘You look tired. You should stop working nights.’ He replied, ‘If you don’t shut it down someone will do it for you,’ or something to that effect, and then leaves.

There is a potentially giant audience waiting to see if there’s an after-credits scene in Suicide Squad . The movie will be hitting 4,200 screens, including 380 in IMAX format, with Deadline predicting it could have one of the biggest opening weekends in the history of August cinema. The movie’s PG-13 rating opens it up to a much larger audience, and Deadline noted that it could be setting up a franchise.

“Just as Guardians did for Disney, Suicide Squad is on the verge of catapulting a new franchise. How high will its debut go? Tracking has it at $130M-$140M, but we believe it will be on the high side of that and quite possibly more than $140M. The film bows 6 PM in Thursday previews and drops day and date Friday in the U.S. and overseas in 57 countries.”

Moviegoers upset that there’s no after-credits scene in Suicide Squad may be getting a little bit more of the movie than is fit in the roughly two hours and 10 minute running time. Jared Leto said in a recent interview that there were a lot of scenes with his character, The Joker, that ended up on the cutting room floor. That leaves the potential for a lot of deleted scenes to be included when the movie is released on DVD.

But even though there is no after-credits scene in Suicide Squad , there is at least one advantage to the lack of an extra bit at the end — moviegoers can safely leave after the mid-credits scene ends and save themselves a few minutes getting home.
