Steve Jobs, who passed away a year ago last Friday , has been commemorated in three customized MacBook Pro laptops.
Uncover, a Netherlands-based laser-cutting company that specializes in customized MacBooks, designed the laptops with an illuminated Apple logo containing the silhouette of the late Apple co-founder and design guru. The logo design was the work of Hong Kong artist Jonathan Mak. The results are, in the spirit of Apple, stylish and understated, and there are other nice touches such as a Steve Jobs quote engraved on the bottom of each MacBook:
“When you grow up, you tend to get told that the world is the way it is and your life is just to live your life inside the world, try not to bash into the walls too much, try to have a nice family, have fun, save a little money. That’s a very limited life. Life can be much broader, once you discover one simple fact, and that is that everything around you that you call life was made up by people that were no smarter than you. And you can change it, you can influence it, you can build your own things that other people can use. Once you learn that, you’ll never be the same again.”
And the best news? These ultra-stylish, limited edition laptops can be bought by you… if you happen to be rolling in dough. Uncover placed all three Steve Jobs tribute laptops on eBid , where they are currently going for around €9,500 (around $12,400) each .
Buyers of the laptop won’t only be getting a sweet piece of customized kit (each laptop boasts the finest specifications currently available: a 2.7GHz Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB of memory, and a 750GB SSD),they’ll also be helping charity. The auction listing promises:
“All proceeds from this auction will be evenly split between the charity Get It Done and a fund that we are setting up with the people at SellanApp, dedicated to creating iOS apps that don’t have a direct business model, but have a clear societal value.”
