Stephanie Ritter graduated from Florida State University in 2011. However, following her four-year stint in school, Ritter says she has been unable to find a job in her field of study which was theater. Now, Ritter is turning to eBay to pay off her $40,000 in student loans. The disgruntled grad is offering her diploma, along with access to her social media accounts and a tour of the university for a whopping $50,000. Ritter says selling the diploma will help “validate” her four years spent at the university.
The Daily Mail reports that Florida State University grad Stephanie Ritter is using an unconventional method to pay off her student loans. Ritter says that she attended the university from 2007-2011 graduating with a Bachelor’s degree with a major in theater. Stephanie says despite graduating with honors, she has been unable to find employment in her field and is instead working as an assistant.
“I thought this piece of paper has so much worth to so many people, but for a theatre major, it couldn’t mean less. I’m doing the exact same things and probably getting paid the exact same amount as people that dropped out halfway through freshman year, except I’m still $40,000 in debt and they’re, well, not.”
Therefore, with the degree essentially being meaningless in the theater world, the grad has decided to sell the “piece of paper” to someone else. Ritter says that she has $40,000 in debt from her time at the university but is asking $50,000 for the degree as she is hoping to cover the cost of tuition, room and board, books, and “memories.”
Ritter notes that the winning bidder will receive an “authentic FSU experience” including a personalized tour of the school, a “mint condition diploma” and access to her social media accounts for six months to relive her college experience via photos and comments. For a completely authentic experience, Ritter is offering some special tours which will include a “drive by” of her “former drug dealer/ yoga teacher’s house” and stops to various places she received traffic citations.
Stephanie assures the bidders that the diploma is in absolute “mint condition” as it has “never been used to get a job before.” Buzzfeed notes that Ritter thinks she is doing someone a favor by ensuring they don’t waste four years for a useless piece of paper.
“Why waste four years of your life going to a state school for a piece of paper when you can just buy mine?”
