The first full trailer for Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln, the biographical film about the 16th president, has been released. Earlier this week, a teaser trailer hit the web.
The movie covers the last four months of Abraham Lincoln’s life and stars Oscar-winner Daniel Day-Lewis in the title role. The cast also includes Tommy Lee Jones, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Sally Field, Jackie Earle Haley, Lee Pace, James Spader, and Hal Holbrook. The film is based in part on Doris Kearns Goodwin’s book Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln. Liam Neeson was originally cast as Lincoln, the first Republican president, but, by the time filming was ready to begin, he concluded that he was too old for the part of Honest Abe.
According to the DreamWorks studio, the film “will focus on the political collision of Lincoln and the powerful men of his cabinet on the road to abolition and the end of the Civil War.” In the film, Steven Speilberg said that he tried to portray “Lincoln at work, not just Lincoln standing around posing for the history books … arguably the greatest working President in American history doing some of the greatest work for the world.”
The new Steven Spielberg movie is slated for a limited release on November 9 and then goes national on November 16.
Presumably the movie will do a lot better at the box office than Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter and hopefully will be more historically accurate.
