The gruesome Anthony Sowell murders of 2009/10 apparently “fascinate” Michael Madison, the man being charged today with the murders of at least three woman in Cleveland.
Sowell was found guilty in 2011 of killing 11 woman, whose decomposed bodies were found mainly naked. He received the death sentence for his crimes.
At this stage, authorities are concerned that more corpses may be at large in the current Ohio murder investigation despite the extensive search by police and local community members of over 40 abandoned premises and areas.
The arrested suspect , Michael Madison, 35, who is registered as a sex offender, leased the garage where the discovery of the three dead woman was made.
Gary Norton, East Cleveland’s Mayor told CNN: “We are dealing with a sick individual, and we have reason to believe that there might be more victims,”
Norton pointed to the fact that there was a lot of evidence already, from interviews carried out with Madison and local residents that he was “heavily influenced” by the Sowell murders, known as the “Cleveland strangler.”
He said: “Unfortunately, this is a sick individual who appears to have been influenced by another sick individual. If he had been out for one more hour, there’s no telling what would have happened.”
According to Norton there is serious evidence that Madison has some kind of fascination with Sowell and the murders he was convicted of:
“Some things that led us to believe that in some way, shape, or form, Sowell might be an influence.”
The specific details of the charges to be brought against Michael Madison will be revealed in the coming day, as police and local authorities continue to search the area for more bodies.
