“The Man” singer did not hesitate to share the great news that they received from the doctor about the unborn baby’s gender as well.

“Baby No. 2 on the way! According to the doctor, it’s a boy, so hopefully they are right. We had a girl at first.”

Aloe Blacc and Maya Fisher welcomed their first child, Mandela, into the world back in 2013. In a June 2014 interview with the Daily Mail , Aloe Blacc opened up about fatherhood and how it had changed his life.

“It’s been wonderful. The beautiful thing is that my wife is a champion. She lets me sleep when I need to. But I definitely help out as much as I can. I’ve changed plenty of nappies!”

The I Need a Dollar singer, born Egbert Nathaniel Dawkins III, also talked about his wife – including how they met, the moment that he knew she was the one as well as the most romantic thing that he had ever done.

“I met my wife in Melbourne, Australia. Neither of us are big drinkers so we sat and shared a juice and talked hip-hop for hours. I realized she was the one when she recited lyrics from Illmatic by [American rapper] Nas!… One time I had to leave town on Valentine’s Day, so I bought a bunch of roses and scattered the petals in the medicine cabinet. I knew my wife would go in there when she got home, and when she opened it all the petals would fall out. She was touched, but it hurts sometimes to have to be away on such important days.”

Blacc made it clear during the same interview that his daughter Mandela was named after the Mandela family and not necessarily Nelson Mandela himself.

When asked by Us Weekly if he currently plays music for his unborn child, Aloe Blacc claimed that he does so “all the time.” The singer-songwriter stated that “there’s so much music in the house all the time” so “there’s no way to escape it.”

In an April 2013 interview , Maya Jupiter admitted that Aloe Blacc was a “big influence” on her own career – especially since she had the chance to watch him create music and travel the world together. The wife and future mother of two claimed that she learned a lot from him about storytelling and the art of songwriting overall.

Recently, according to Billboard , Aloe Blacc made headlines by becoming the guest mentor on the hit singing competition TV series The Voice for Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine.

Aloe Blacc initially launched his solo singing career over a decade ago in 2003. He made it clear in a 2010 interview that he decided to focus on songwriting due to his discomfort with the current state of hip-hop music.

According to Hip Hop DX , Aloe Blacc felt that the state of hip hop was “largely about the expression of ego.” He reportedly wondered how he could be more “crafty” when it came to writing songs in the form of rap that actually expressed “more than ego, style and finesse.”
