Shia LaBeouf may not want to be famous any more, but the actor may need to call on the perks of fame in the near future. A new report has LaBeouf getting arrested during a Broadway performance of “Cabaret,” and Shia was reportedly escorted from the building in handcuffs and tears.
Variety carried Shia’s tale of woe early on Thursday evening, noting that LaBeouf was allegedly disruptive during the first act of “Cabaret.” When the play went to intermission, police reportedly escorted LaBeouf from the building, and it apparently was not a pretty scene.
Benj Pasek posted to his Twitter account that he “just saw Shia LaBeouf in handcuffs in tears surrounded by 6 police officers outside of Cabaret the musical.” The Tony-nominee then added, “Oh New York, u is a crazy b***h.”
Danny Burstein added on Facebook, “Ladies and gentlemen, this is your places call for Act II. Also, to let you know, Shia LaBeouf has just been escorted from the building in handcuffs. Yep, that just happened.”
Schadenfreude at Shia’s expense aside, there’s no word as yet on just what drove LaBeouf to tears and disruption. It could have been the play. It could have been the knowledge that the Transformers franchise will plod along without him. It could have been a prolonged comedown from partying too hard with Channing Tatum.
No charges have been filed so far, and it is unclear whether LaBeouf was wearing a paper bag as the cops escorted him from the building.
As of late, Shia has had about as rough a run as anyone this side of Justin Bieber. Having retired and un-retired from “all public life,” LaBeouf got into a scrum and head-butted “some guy at a London pub.” Because that’s what you do.
LaBeouf, who never faced charges for his involvement in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull , also recently came under fire for a plagiarism flap, which saw Shia failing to credit artist Daniel Clowes for inspiring a film that marked LaBeouf’s directorial debut.
