Game of Thrones fans rejoice! According to HBO writer Cat Grant’s tweet, season four has began filming.
Cat, who is David Benioff and D.B Weiss’ assistant, confirmed this news via a tweet.
The fourth season , which covers the remainder of book three in George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series, is expected to return to HBO around the end of March, beginning of April 2014.
This doesn’t give producers a whole lot of time to film ten episodes and go through all of post-production, but this is a seasoned cast and crew, so it should be okay.
Considering that season three covered about 70 percent of the book, it is unclear how the series creators will extend the story to make a whole season.
Confirming another rumor, it was announced on Monday that, Game of Thrones season 4 will indeed see director Neil Marshall return, but not to direct the finale episode.
According to Variety Neil Marshall, director of the second season episode titled Blackwater will return in to direct the penultimate episode, which has historically been a crucial episode in the series.
Season One had the death of a major character, season two the Battle of Blackwater Bay , and season three had The Red Wedding .
Marshall’s return had been speculated for a while, but it was believed that he would come back to direct the finale.
In general with 10 episode miniseries the big punch is reserved for the last episode. That is not the case with Game of Thrones , which has had dramatic episode nine events.
The one sure thing is that it will be hard to top all the previous season’s ninth episodes, but if anyone can pack a punch, it is Marshall.
