Sarah Wheaton is narcoleptic, which means she has trouble staying awake for long periods of time, and will randomly fall asleep, even when she’s standing. According to Today , Wheaton shared a video of one of her narcoleptic attacks on YouTube to raise awareness about the condition, and the video has since gone viral.

According to the New York Daily News , the Oklahoma college student cannot control these attacks . While some may find the condition humorous, it’s actually quite serious, and it affects the way 250,000 Americans live their lives.

“There have been days where I have been lying in bed just crying my eyes out because I want to go do something so bad, but I can’t stay awake long enough to get out of bed,” she explained while visiting the Today show. “It’s like zoning out really bad.”

As previously reported by the Inquisitr , the video was posted on Reddit , where it received a significant amount of views.

“I think most times I have ever seen narcolepsy mentioned in movies or on TV it is usually in a funny way, like wouldn’t it be humorous to see someone just fall asleep right in the middle of eating their soup or whatever. There is nothing funny about this video though. The sheer amount of effort and frustration she deals with to complete the simplest of tasks makes my heart go out to this poor girl. Makes a person realize how much they take for granted,” said one Reddit user.

And this, of course, is what Sarah Wheaton was trying to convey with her video.
