Sarah Palin isn’t one to let an opportunity to weigh in on a controversial event pass her by. The former vice-presidential nominee recently made her opinion known about the hubbub surrounding Texas middle school student Ahmed Mohamed being arrested and suspended by his school after he brought a clock he had made from scratch to show his science teacher. Sarah Palin is apparently angry that the school is taking heat for its actions, as well as those who are giving the student positive attention, including the President of the United States.
“Yep, believing that’s a clock in a school pencil box is like believing Barack Obama is ruling over the most transparent administration in history,” Sarah Palin wrote in a Facebook post in which she shared pictures of her kids’ pencil boxes. “Right. That’s a clock, and I’m the Queen of England.” It appears that wasn’t enough for the former governor of Alaska as she then went on to claim that Ahmed was clearly an “obstinate-answering student.” Sarah Palin then went on to compare the situation with Ahmed to other students who had been disciplined by their schools for having weapons, or items that looked like weapons.
“Friends, consider the kids disciplined and/or kicked out of school for bringing squirt guns to school or taking bites out of a pop tart until it resembled (to some politically correct yahoo) a gun. Or the student out deer hunting with his dad early one morning who forgot he had a box of ammo in his truck when he parked in the school’s lot later that day,” Sarah Palin wrote. As the Huffington Post points out, the she was talking about happened in 2013 when a Maryland school suspended a 7-year-old after he chewed his Pop Tart into the shape of a gun and began waving it around. After the issue came to light, the school said the student’s disruptive behavior was the reason he was suspended and not because he molded the breakfast pastry into the shape of a weapon.
In another situation she cited in her post, several students were suspended for bringing their hunting rifles onto school grounds in their truck. While they didn’t take the weapons out of the vehicle, they were suspended because school policy forbade any weapon of any kind being brought onto school grounds. It’s not known whether Sarah Palin knew any of those details, as she proclaimed the school was right for having a child who brought a clock to school arrested.
