If you have AT&T, Sprint, or T-Mobile, you’ve probably already had a chance to examine the new Samsung Galaxy Note Edge and determine if the unique design features make this the phablet that will complete your smartphone existence. For those who use U.S. Cellular and Verizon, news today that the these two companies will likely have the newest Galaxy Note iteration by the end of the week is both welcome and exciting.
Rumors swirled over the weekend that U.S. Cellular would probably have the Note Edge in the next few weeks, but CNET reported this morning that the carrier would have the phablet available by January 7. The price? A hefty $400, with contract, putting the Galaxy Note Edge firmly in the luxury end of currently available smartphones.
Meanwhile, Phandroid reported that the Galaxy Note Edge would be available on January 8 at Verizon Wireless. The article quoted the prices for the phablet at $399 on contract, $799 off contract, and $33.32 if you subscribe to Verizon’s Edge program.
What is it about the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge that makes it work $400? As the Inquisitr has previously reported, the specifications between the Note Edge and the Note 4 are basically the same. As PC Advisor discussed in September, it’s not the Note Edge’s specs that make it a fascinating phablet, but its design.
When you look at photos of the Note Edge, you can see that the screen flows off the right side of the screen, curving down to the back of the case. That edge display features icons which can be set to do a variety of things: show a different display than the main display, be visible when the phablet is in a case or carrier, or show notifications.
PC Advisor’s reviewers had a chance to use the edge display at IFA and felt “that it’s not just a gimmick and could be a really useful feature on a day-to-day basis.”
From those who’ve chosen to make the leap to the luxury device, reviews have been very positive.
