In truth, we don’t know very much about the Samsung Galaxy Note 5, the latest “phablet” (part smartphone, part tablet) coming from industry leader Samsung, but with the highly-anticipated release of the Samsung Galaxy S6 rapidly approaching, as previously reported in the Inquisitr , rumors, theories, and perhaps some genuine leaked information is beginning to run rampant. Here’s a rundown of everything we know, have heard, or can guess about the Galaxy Note 5.
The big one first: release date. According to a report from GottaBeMobile , although Samsung normally released their new Note right around the start of the IFA convention (the International Franchise Association’s yearly show), taking place this year on September 4, 2015, a Korean publication (Samsung being a South Korean company, a lot of rumours start there) has suggested that the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 could drop in August, much earlier in the year than the Note 4. That being said, they were a month early on the Galaxy S6, as well. Still, expect to see the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 in American stores between August and early September.
The display is another source of considerable speculation on the Note 5. GottaBeMobile cites several reports from Korea and China, including a quote from Roh Tae-moon, the executive vice-president of Samsung’s product strategy team, which suggest that the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 will include the curved, flexible dual-edge display, debuting on the Galaxy S6 Edge, depending on its reception.
Several sources, including the International Business Times , are also reporting that (in a move to up the ante on the Samsung Galaxy Note 4’s super AMOLED, quad-HD display) will feature a 4K Ultra-HD screen, displaying resolutions of 2160 x 3480 on a 5.9″ screen, a PPI of over 700 pixels-per-inch. The rear camera is rumoured to be 20 megapixels, which would allow for an Ultra-HD display to be put to good use in displaying those pictures. The front camera is rumored to be a not-unimpressive 5 megapixels.
Supporting all of this visual powerhouse is alleged to be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 8-core processor, 4 GB of RAM, and an impressive internal storage of 128 GB, on top of MicroSD support. All of this is rumoured to be powered by a massive 4000 mAh battery, integrated with the Samsung Galaxy S6’s wireless charging capability.
Other rumoured features are strong virtual reality compatibility, and according to ValueWalk, the Oculus Rift team have already stated that the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 will include specific compatibility with the Oculus Rift headset.
All told, if these hints and rumors pan out, the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is likely to be the most powerful mobile device on the market in 2015.
