Sam Smith is on a musical roll and it doesn’t seem like he’ll stop anytime soon. Along with winning numerous Grammy awards this year , the singer’s debut album, In the Lonely Hour, has steadily climbed the U.K. Official Albums Chart (OCC), making it to the top spot in the latest chart figures.
According to Billboard , Smith’s album reached 41,000 on the chart sale last week, which combined streaming data, regular sales, and online downloads. This isn’t the first time In the Lonely Hour landed in the highest spot on the albums chart. Last month, after winning four Grammys, the album climbed to the top after resting in 4th place for several weeks prior.
In fact, OCC states that Smith’s debut album hasn’t left the Top 10 since May, 2014, the month of its release. It was only recently, however, that OCC began incorporating streaming activity into the overall numbers each week, which helped Smith’s boost back to the top spot.
Yet, not everyone seems to enjoy the pop star’s melodic tunes and heartfelt lyrics. The Inquisitr reports that a few industry names described Smith as lacking diversity, boring, and bland .
Nevertheless, Smith continues to rack up awards. Along with his Grammy awards, the British crooner recently won twice at the 2015 BRIT Awards. Last year, he took away the BRIT Awards’ Critics Choice Award. Yet, he remains seemingly humble throughout his accomplishments, recently stating that he didn’t expect this much success, but he feels it all boils down to honesty .
“I didn’t have to change who I was for this album. I was just myself and honest and I went through something. And I keep going around in my head what has made my album so successful and every single day I come down to the word honesty. And its true, it’s all I have to do. Is just be honest.”
So, what’s next for Sam Smith? According to his official website , he’s ready to tackle his North American tour, starting this summer.
