News of the rumored new iPhone is making the rounds today. Apple is reportedly going to include “force touch technology” on the next iPhone 6s or iPhone 7, according to the The Wall Street Journal . This feature will include sensors that detect how much pressure a user applies when touching the screen. Similar technology is already coming to the highly anticipated Apple Watch and the latest MacBook – which now comes in gold .
Apple revealed that this new technology feature allows Apple Watch users access to a “range of contextually specific controls, such as an action menu in Messages, or a mode that allows you to select different watch faces.” When it comes to using the MacBook, Force Touch “enables new capabilities, like quickly looking up the definition of a word or previewing a file just by clicking and continuing to press on the trackpad.” It’s unclear on how this technology will be utilized on the rumored new iPhone.
BGR already seems to have an idea of how Force Touch will work on the new iPhone. The technology will not only allow the iPhone to know when the display is being pressed, but it will also detect the amount of pressure that’s being applied, allowing the user access to options for specialized touch commands.
This isn’t the first time it’s been rumored that Apple would utilize Force Touch on its latest iPhones. AppleInsider cited sources that previously said that the iPhone 6s or iPhone 7 could include the new technology. The new Force Touch iPhones could be released as soon as fall of this year.
Apple doesn’t also have any plans to release an iPhone with a 4-inch display, as previously rumored. That means the iPhone 5s will remain as the only iPhone with a huge display. The Wall Street Journal report also says that the rumored iPhone 6s or iPhone 7 will also come in a pink option.
“Apple isn’t changing the size of the displays in the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhones and plans to keep the resolution similar, but it may add another color for the aluminum casing of the iPhone, these people said. Currently, Apple offers the iPhone in three colors: silver, gold and space gray. It is testing a new pink option to the lineup, these people said.”
That’s exciting news for iPhone users. Apple announced earlier this week that the MacBook will come in three new colors. It’s about time that all of the iPhones comes in its own color options, as well.
This isn’t the first time that Apple has released a pink color option. On Sept. 20, 2013, the company released the iPhone 5c , which was available in five colors: white, yellow, blue, green, and pink. It was also the least expensive iPhone that Apple has ever offered.
