The $20 million question everyone is asking is, who is the man behind the largest order for Rolls-Royce Phantom?
His name is Stephen Hung, a 55-year-old business man from Hong Kong. According to Business Insider , the real estate entrepreneur has placed an order for 30 Rolls-Royce Phantoms , the largest order to be made in Rolls-Royce history. The Wall Street Journal has valued the purchase at $20 million .
The other question which follows naturally is, why in the world would anyone buy that many Rolls-Royce Phantoms?
Well, Stephen it seems has big plans to revolutionize the luxury and gambling market in his home base, Macau. The Guardian has reported that he plans to use the Rolls-Royce to offer chauffeur service to guest who will be staying at the new hotel and casino he plans to build. The resort has been named Louis XII , a subtle statement of the type of extravagance that Stephen has in mind. Once you understand the high-end design involved in the construction and the luxurious services that will be on offer, it will become clear that making such a large order for Rolls-Royce Phantoms ideally suits the direction in which Stephen wants to take project. The Guardian gave us a sneak peek.
“Hung, a former investment banker, is known for his flamboyant style and the resort looks to be the flashiest of the wave of expansion projects now under construction in the tiny Chinese territory near Hong Kong. The resort will boast a 1,860-sq metre (20,000-sq ft) villa billed as the world’s ‘most extravagant’ hotel suite, which will reportedly cost $130,000 a night.Hung has even enlisted a descendent of Louis XIII to help with the hotel’s design, based on French Renaissance and Baroque styling.”
The 22-story hotel is set to be open in 2016 and it is expected that the large order of Rolls-Royce will be delivered then. The agreement signed between Stephen’s company, Louis XIII Holdings, and Rolls-Royce details that payments for the Phantoms will be done via a $2 million deposit, another $3 million towards the end of the year and the remaining $15 million when the cars are delivered.
The large order has no doubt been an important one for Rolls-Royce since it reaffirms their position as a leader in the luxury car business.
“We at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars are delighted and honoured that Mr Hung has commissioned Rolls-Royce to provide the largest single order of Phantoms in history,” said Rolls Royce CEO Torsten Mueller-Oetvoes in a statement.
