Late last year, Roku announced plans to make its popular streaming media boxes available outside of the US. Shortly after the announcement, Roku launched its content-streaming set-top boxes over in the UK, and now the company is set to release the Roku 2 XD and the company’s flagship device, the Roku 2 XS, in Canada starting this week.
With the Roku 2 XD / XS set-top boxes, the company says you’ll be able to access over 100 entertainment options–which Roku calls “channels”–straight from your device. Said content includes TV and movies from the likes of Netflix and Crackle; music streaming from Rdio and TuneIn Radio; casual gaming options including the wildly popular avian-flinging game Angry Birds ; live and on-demand streaming of NHL and MLB games; and more.
“We have a simple formula for our best-selling streaming players: provide access to a ton of entertainment at a low price, while maintaining a best-in-class streaming experience,” said Chuck Seiber, vice president of global marketing at Roku. “We’ve set the same high bar for ourselves with the launch of our players today in Canada.”
The Roku 2 XD and Roku 2 XS will be available at Amazon, Walmart, and London Drugs online starting this week. The Roku 2 XD will run you CA $109.99, and the Roku 2 XS goes for CA $89.99. The company says that the devices will be available online first, but Walmart and London Drugs should ahve them in-stock at stores by the end of the month.
