Good Morning America co-anchor Robin Roberts has something new on her plate: a production company. The co-host of the popular ABC show is known for her personal style (she is open about personal struggles, including health problems), will now head up the newly formed Rock’n Robin Productions, according to Good Morning America .
Robin Roberts will continue to co-anchor Good Morning America (GMA) while overseeing the company.
Under Robin Roberts’ direction as president, the independent production company will work on making original broadcast and digital programming for ABC and other television networks. It will make a variety of shows from informational programs to documentaries to live special events and lifestyle reality series.
“I’m blessed to be able to do even more of what I love to do and now reach an even broader audience with programming that will inspire, inform and entertain people,” said Roberts in a statement. “I’m very excited to get involved in the business and development side of production, and will spend a lot of time working with the team on the creative.”
Roberts also said she was “grateful to my ABC and GMA family for supporting the launch of the company.”
Roberts has wasted no time in getting her new production company going. Rock’n Robin already has a few projects in the works, including a news documentary, a Thanksgiving special for ABC, two reality show pilots, and a digital series for espnW .
ABC News Executive John R. Green was named by Roberts as Executive Vice President of Programming and Development, according to Deadline Hollywood . Green will continue at ABC News as Executive Producer of Special Programming, but will help Roberts oversee day-to-day operations of Rock’N Robin in his new additional role.
The company’s website rocknrobin.tv , was also live as of September 3.
The Rock’n Robin website will give viewers a special look at work done by Roberts behind the scenes with exclusive footage and photos from all projects. Roberts and her staff will also run a blog called N’Courage about people who have succeeded despite extraordinary odds.
The company’s first show will premiere on Thursday, September 4 on espnW . The show, “In the Game with Robin Roberts” will feature Roberts talking with Michael Sam, the first openly gay football player to get drafted by a team in the NFL. The show is in its third season, but will now be headed up under Robin Roberts’s new production company.
