Red Bull Stratos skydiver Fearless Felix Baumgartner has rescheduled his record breaking jump for Sunday.

Baumgartner had to cancel his jump on Tuesday due to high winds. The team thought about trying the jump again on Thursday, October 11, but weather reports indicate that Felix will have to wait until at least Sunday to attempt his record breaking jump.

Team spokeswoman Sarah Anderson told Reuters : “Sunday is looking like an option.”

The Red Bull Stratos team writes on its website : “Next weather window to launch Felix Baumgartner opens Sunday, Oct. 14th. More weather updates to follow as we get closer.”

If everything goes to plan, Fearless Felix will ride a weather balloon up to the edge of space before making a 23 mile plummet back to earth. Baumgartner expects to break the sound barrier by hitting speeds of more than 690 mph. According to Reuters , the free fall will last for a little over 5 minutes and 30 seconds.

But Felix will need a very still day to get his balloon off the ground. The Red Bull Stratos team said that they need winds to blow at less than 2 mph to get the balloon passed 700 feet.

If Baumgartner does accomplish his goal he’ll become the first person to skydive through the sound barrier. He’ll also break a skydiving record set by Joe Kittinger in 1960. Kittinger jumped from 102,800 feet in 1960 and reached a speed of 614 mph.

Here’s a video of Felix Baumgartner’s test jump.

Do you think Felix Baumgartner will be able to jump on Sunday?
