Pudge is returning to the Texas Rangers. The Star-Telegram reports the 14-time All-Star catcher, who started his 21-year career with the team, has been named a Special Assistant to the General Manager and will also act as an instructor and goodwill ambassador.

In the course of his career, Pudge also played for the Marlins, Tigers, Yankees, Astros, and Nationals. Along with Hank Aaron, Barry Bonds, George Brett, and Stan Musial, he is one of the only players to have a career minimum of a.295 batting average, 2800 hits, 550 doubles, 300 home runs, and 1300 RBI.

According to NBCDFW.com , Rodriguez holds the major league record for game caught with 2427, has a record 13 Gold Gloves, and appeared in nine straight All-Star Games. He was drafted by the Rangers in 1988 and played for them from 1991-2002, returning for the 2009 season. He announced his retirement last April at the age of 41. His son Ivan was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 2011 First Year Player draft and currently plays in their minor league system.

Pudge returns to baseball at a time when the steroid scandal is being renewed. Jose Canseco wrote in his book that he injected him with steroids, a claim Rodriguez denies.

Do you think he did steroids? Will he be good for the Ranger’s young players?
