A series of never-before-seen images taken in the White House capture the drama immediately after the 9/11 attack on the Twin Towers and the Pentagon. The images show the reactions of various government officials to the attacks.

Captured by Dick Cheney’s staff photographer as the drama unfolded on 9/11, the photos have now been released by the National Archives following an FOIA request by Frontline documentary filmmaker Colette Neirouz Hanna. Politico reports the photos were recently posted on the Flickr stream of the U.S. National Archives .

According to USA Today , the collection of photos, taken in the immediate aftermath of the 9/11 attacks , shows the reactions of Dick Cheney, Condoleeza Rice, Colin Powell, and then-U.S. President George W. Bush.

The above image, taken in the secure basement of the White House, shows Cheney with his head in his hands while talking on the telephone. This highly-secure underground bunker under the East Wing of the White House could withstand a nuclear attack.

At the time of the attacks, President George W. Bush was visiting a school in Sarasota, Florida. A photo taken later that day shows a concerned-looking Bush conferring with his colleagues on his return to the White House.

During the 9/11 or September 11 attacks, two planes hit the Twin Towers in central New York. A third plane crashed into the Pentagon, and a fourth was brought down in Pennsylvania. In total, 2,996 people were killed in the attacks.

More images taken at that time can be seen in the Reuters video below.

In related news, the Inquisitr recently reported that families of 9/11 ground zero victims were outraged as the remains of over 1,100 unidentified people were moved to an underground repository at the National September 11 Memorial Museum .

The Inquisitr also reports that Truthers, or 9/11 conspiracy theorists, are saying that full disclosure is imminent, with Russian satellite evidence to be released showing that the 9/11 attacks were an “inside job.”
