Porsha Stewart is once again raising questions about ex-husband Kordell Stewart’s sexual orientation, with a large portion of the Real Housewives of Atlanta premiere dedicated to the couple’s post-split drama.
The sixth season of the hit reality show premiered this week, with Porsha Stewart and her crashing marriage taking up much of the episode. It seems a logical progression for a show that ended Season 5 by showing Porsha learning that her husband was filing for divorce when she read it on Twitter.
This week’s Real Housewives episode showed Porsha raising questions of Kordell’s sexuality.
“There were definitely times in the marriage that Kordell didn’t necessarily want me, physically, and that made me wonder, what does he want?” she said.
Sources said there were red flags even before Porsha and Kordell got married, but Kordell reassured her that he was indeed straight.
Kordell has wasted no time in responding, denying the rumors and calling out his ex-wife for spreading them.
“I’m very ashamed of my wife for saying something that she knows is not true at all,” he said in a statement about his sexuality. “The rumors have never been true. I’m not gay.”
Kordell added that her remarks were also insensitive to the gay community and harmful to his own relationship with his son.
“It is very disappointing that she will do anything and say anything for a minute of so-called fame,” he said. “She can have that life, I just want to continue to be the best single dad and father that I can for my son.”
Porsha Stewart is not the first person to raise questions of Kordell Stewart’s sexual orientation, however. While he was playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Stewart faced rumors that he was gay and frequented gay-friendly establishments in the city.
He denied these rumors, though teammates said they were never sure.
“The players heard that, but we never talked about it,” wrote wide receiver Plaxico Burress in his memoir. “I don’t know if Kordell is gay or not. It was none of our business. If ever we would have talked about it, it would have made everybody uncomfortable.
The divorce leaves Porsha Stewart as a newly single member of the Real Housewives cast, but may not be the end of her air time.
