A pop star is in a coma after inhaling helium during a stunt in Japan. According to Mail Online , the member of the popular 3B Junior group was inhaling helium from a canister as part of a “game” on a television show when she collapsed . The young girl was rushed to a hospital in Tokyo, where doctors learned that she had suffered an embolism in the blood supply that goes to her brain. While the situation is extremely serious, sources say that there is hope for the child.
“The girl is believed to now be showing signs of activity, including the moving of her eyes and limb,” reports Mail Online .
The pop star in a coma after inhaling helium was one of five girls from the group to take part in the stunt. They participated in a show that often makes people do things that are “dangerous or humiliating,” which is something that most people find entertaining or funny. However, this stunt went terribly wrong. Breathing helium can be very dangerous, and can cause serious reactions, some of which can result in death.
According to BBC News , the girl’s name has not been released because she is a minor. The news outlet provided additional information about what the girls were doing, and about an investigation that has been launched since the January 28 incident.
“She was inhaling helium as part of a game that involved changing her voice, but TV Asahi later revealed that the gas canister was marked for adult use only. The station apologized for the incident and said an internal probe had begun. Local media said police had also launched an investigation on suspicion of professional negligence resulting in injury,” BBC News reports.
Back in 2012, a woman committed suicide by inhaling helium , proving its deadly effects. As previously reported by the Inquisitr , a Millbourne, Pennsylvania, woman’s cause of death was listed as “helium inhalation and chemical asphyxia.” The negative side effects of helium are nothing to joke about, despite some people thinking it’s funny because it changes the sound of their voice.
“Helium inhalation has become a popular method of suicide in recent years. According to a recent study, reported helium-related deaths spiked from two in 2010 to 42 in 2011 while only 18 people were recorded as having died from the gas between 1993 and 2007,” reports the Inquistr .
Many are hoping that the pop star comes out of the coma and that the helium inhalation doesn’t end up costing her her life.
