Introducing the PlayBox — an impressive combination of a PlayStation 4 and an Xbox One.

That’s right — a combination .

The ongoing debate of Xbox One vs PlayStation 4 hit a high note during the holiday season of 2013, pitting gamers and critics alike head-to-head to determine which gaming console was better.

The concept of the PlayBox alone is the ultimate compromise, and may prove that it is possible to have the best of both worlds.

Ed Zarick is the console modder credited with creating the PlayBox.

Neowin reports that Zarick originally placed the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One next-gen systems into separate laptops that were described as “monstrous” and “gigantic.”

The internal parts of the consoles were crammed into the base of the original design and paired to a sizable 22-inch display. Even though that might be viewed as impressive by most fans and critics, Zarick was able to elevate that concept to a much higher ground by blending the consoles into a single device now known as the PlayBox.

Reports confirm that the PlayBox shares a lot of similarities with the Xbook Duo , a conceptual design that combined the Xbox 360 and the Xbox One into a single unit.

Although the PlayBox combines two next-gen consoles together, they are actually separated internally.

The only item that is shared between the two systems is the display itself. There is even an available HDMI port that can be used.

It may seem like a dream come true for the average gamer, but there are two downsides.

(1) The console’s USB ports cannot be accessed by the Xbox One side of the system.

(2) The PlayBox is not for sale to the general public.

Neowin confirms that the PlayBox was a custom project that Ed Zarick created for someone. Zarick admits that he would consider creating more of them for interested gamers. He did not reveal the price for which he would sell the system.

However, Zarick did mention that it would be “substantially more” than another device that he sells, which costs nearly $1,500.

What do you think about the PlayBox? Can you see yourself placing an order to buy one if the opportunity to do so arises in the future?
