PBS Masterpiece announced that it will air the new BBC adaptation Death Comes To Pemberley, a sequel to Pride And Prejudice based on the novel by P.D. James.

The story takes the beloved Jane Austen characters into the future, six years after Fitzwilliam Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet marry.

The couple is enjoying life at their idyllic estate of Pemberley, when peace is shattered as Lydia, the disgraced youngest sister of Elizabeth Darcy comes in screaming frantically that her husband Mr. Wickham has been murdered.

PBS made the announcement on Tuesday night during their press tour to the delight of the thousands of loyal followers of the network as well as those of Jane Austen and her novel.

The public broadcast network continues its tradition of bringing the best period dramas to American television. Death Comes To Pemberley joins many other British productions including Downton Abbey, Sherlock, Call The Midwife, and many more.

PBS Masterpiece Executive Producer Rebecca Eaton confirmed during the Summer TV Press Tour that the P.D. James adaptation is coming to the US.

The airing of the period drama is timed to coincide with the 200th anniversary of Jane Austen’s Pride And Prejudice, celebrated around the world earlier this year.

Death Comes To Pemberley is produced by BBC and Origin and filming is taking place on location in Yorkshire, England which is very similar to Derbyshire, the location of the fictional Pemberley.

The three-part miniseries stars Matthew Rhys (The Americans) as Mr. Darcy, Anna Maxwell Martin (Bleak House) as Elizabeth Darcy, Matthew Goode (Birdsong) as Mr. Wickham, and Jenna-Louise Coleman (Doctor Who) as Lydia Bennet.

Eaton stated the network if very aware of the time difference in broadcast between the UK and US and is trying to do what’s best for the viewers and the show.

Death Comes To Pemberley is slated to premiere in 2014 on PBS Masterpiece. Stay tuned.
