Paul McCartney is best known for being the frontman of The Beatles, but for one New York couple he will forever be known as the one who got their engagement going. According to Today , John Dann and Claudia Rogers of Rochester, New York, came to the Paul McCartney show at Times Union Center in Albany set on meeting the legendary music icon.
The couple made signs that read, “I have the ring and I’m 64!” and “He won’t marry me ’til he meets you.” The couple stood at the front of the stage waving their signs almost the entire concert until the final encore when McCartney brought the pair on stage in front of a crowd of over 13,000. Dann took the microphone and began singing some of the lyrics from McCartney’s Beatles tune “When I’m 64.” After the final lyrics, Dann did as promised and dropped to one knee proposing to Rogers.
“Will you still need me, will you still feed me. When I’m sixty-four?”

After the performance, the couple was immediately recognized by both media and fans, receiving a number of blessings and congratulations. The couple said their hotel room was only 15 minutes away, but it took them a full two hours to make it back due to the overwhelming response to their engagement on the Paul McCartney stage. Dann told Iohud he didn’t really even have an opportunity to feel nervous before getting on stage.
“It was so wild that I didn’t even have a chance to get nervous. The whole crowd was so supportive. It was a magical night for a lot of people, not just us.”
When Dann, a die-hard Beatles fan, began singing the lyrics to “When I’m 64” on stage, he never guessed that McCartney would join in.
“Here I am — a nobody — and a musical legend was accompanying me. It was a moment I’ll never forget.”
It appears multiple dreams came true for Dunn at that night, meeting a music legend he has loved for his whole life and proposing to the woman he plans to spend the rest of his life with. I call “When I’m 64” being played at their wedding.
Paul McCartney isn’t the only music icon to help with a couple’s proposal, Justin Timberlake stopped his concert last year for a fan to propose.
