Paranormal Activity 4 topped the weekend box office ahead of movies like Argo, Alex Cross, and Taken 2 with a $30 million haul.
According to Box Office Mojo , the latest installment in the Paranormal Activity franchised took in $30.2 million during its opening weekend.
The movie has been criticized for being a formulaic horror movie. It is, after all, the fourth movie in the series.
The Las Vegas Weekly writes: “Trotting out the same types of scares, the same plot structure and the same found-footage format gets less effective with each installment.”
Ben Affleck’s critically acclaimed Argo finished the weekend with $16.6 million behind Adam Sandler’s Hotel Transylvania which added another $13.5 million to its total. The animated movie has brought in a total of $119 million and could see a boost next weekend for Halloween.
Liam Neeson’s new movie Taken 2 finished in fourth for the weekend ahead of Tyler Perry’s new action movie Alex Cross .
Alex Cross, which has been dubbed by some critics as the “stupidest movie of the year,” managed to bring in $11.7 million during its opening weekend.
