Overweight Women Turned Away From Popular Nightclub For ‘Being Too Fat’

When 27-year-old Amy Pitcher went out with her friends for a night on the town, the last thing she expected was to be turned away from a nightclub simply for “being too fat.”

Pitcher is now demanding an apology from the club which turned her and her friend away, after being told by a bouncer that they were “too fat.” Pitcher, who is a size 16, wore a carefully selected orange dress, black jacket, and high heeled shoes for the VIP reopening of the Cameo nightclub in Ashford, Kent, in Britain.

But when Pitcher arrived at the club with her mate, she says they were told all the tickets had been sold out. She claims that the doorman then told her and her friend that didn’t have the right “style” for the club.

“I couldn’t believe it. He said he didn’t want to hurt our feelings, but our size and style didn’t go with the image they want to promote. I was completely shocked, just stared at him and said “oh”. I am a size 18 (U.K.) and my friend is a 20. I was dressed appropriately and so were my friends. I was wearing an orange dress with a black jacket and sparkly heels. We didn’t cause any trouble, none of us got angry and we just walked away shocked and quite embarrassed.”

Amy Pitcher, a nurse who has been a member of Slimming World for more than two years, sent an angry email to the manager of the club, letting him know of her ordeal, but received no reply.

Since the Daily Mail broke the story, the management of the club has reportedly offered Pitcher and her friend a complimentary night out at the club, by way of an apology.

Pitcher added, “We had a good rant about them when we left and just tried to enjoy the rest of the night as best we could but it completely ruined our evening. I mean it’s not like we’re going to eat all the furniture and drink all the drinks.”

She also told reporters that the club’s Facebook page showed that someone else had been turned away for having long hair.

“I was shocked and upset because they were making judgement on the appearance of people’s sizes when I know from personal struggle how difficult it is to be accepted. Just because someone is skinny or prettier doesn’t mean they are nice people or not going to cause trouble in a club,” she said.
