‘Outlander’ Wins Big At ‘Entertainment Weekly’ EWwy Awards After Emmy Snub

Despite being snubbed by the 2015 Emmy nominations, fans of Outlander can take some solace in the fact that the show won big at Entertainment Weekly’s EWwy awards, which are voted in by fans.

In fact, Outlander won big in several categories including Best Drama Series, Best Actor in a drama series ( Sam Heughan ), Best Actress in a drama series ( Caitriona Balfe ), and Best Supporting Actor in a drama series (Tobias Menzies).

Not surprisingly, in each of the categories that Outlander took home the top spot, it did so with incredible dominance. In fact, the series won over 80 percent of the votes in all the categories mentioned, except in Best Supporting Actor, where Menzies managed to grab only 79 percent of the votes. Although this doesn’t make up for the failure of the Emmys to recognize Outlander’s success, it does show how large a dedicated fan base the series has managed to build.

Meanwhile, with the series gearing up for the production of season 2 , fans will also be pleased to learn that the show might be headed for an uninterrupted run for the new season. According to EnStarz , the new season will air all of its episodes in a single run without breaks, unlike the first season, which saw a midseason split.

Although this is promising news, the new season will include a very different storyline than the first season. With that in mind, Ronald Moore recently told Zap2It that the story can be viewed as being two different halves.

“The first half of the book is all in Paris and it’s very political and it’s a lot of conspiracies and maneuvering and gossips and double-dealing…and then the book shifts and they return to Scotland and then it’s a war story,” he stated. “It’s two very distinct halves.”

Moore went on to state that although the season could be split up into two halves, that isn’t the plan. “You could theoretically broadcast it in two pieces because they are almost standalone sections, but right now the intention is probably to show them straight through.”

The only downside to the season being shown in a complete run is that fans may have to wait a little longer for season 2 to premiere. For now, it seems as though #Droughtlander with continue.

Although a premiere date has yet to be officially announced, season 2 of Outlander is expected to air sometime in 2016.
