Now that Oscar season is officially over, its time for some of its nominated directors to look for plum projects that will hopefully carry them over into the 2014 season. While executive producer and director of Lincoln , Steven Spielberg has his hands tied, Tom Hooper, Ang Lee, and David Fincher are all looking for promising material.

Director Ang Lee is currently looking at Steven Spielberg’s project that the director passed on. It’s a huge film in the making, based on Moses for a script written by Michael Green and Stuart Hazeldine. Lee, who won in a shocker for Best Director for Life of Pi is currently eyeing the film, which is set to be released by Warner Bros. Visually speaking, Lee can do a lot with the film, especially since he seems to enjoy creating a world from different periods.

Next up is David Fincher, who seems hell bent on making Gone Girl . The film is based on the bestselling novel of the same title, and has been slowly developing since January with Fincher ( The Social Network ). For producers, Fox has on board Reese Witherspoon and Bruna Papandrea, and the screenplay will be written by Flynn, who is also the author of the hit novel. The novel is described as follows: “Gone Girl fits into the thriller genre of contemporary novels. The novel’s principal suspense comes from an uncertainty about the main character, Nick Dunne, and whether he killed his wife, Amy Dunne. “

Lastly, what seems to be the most exciting news is Tom Hooper’s interest in the Freddie Mercury biopic. The biopic which has been in several stages of development throughout the years, finally looks like it’s going forward with Sacha Baron Cohen. Cohen, who has always been the first choice to play Freddie Mercury is the only factor that has remained consistent throughout each stage. Now is looks like Sony Pictures and GK Films are calling upon Hooper ( Les Miserables ) to take the lead. Graham King and Tim Headington are producing with Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal as well. Which director are you excited to hear more film news from? Ang Lee, Tom Hooper, or David Fincher?
