The classic British sitcom ‘Only Fools and Horses’ is set to be remade for American audiences. The original ‘Only Fools and Horses’ was written by John Sullivan and ran for ten years, followed by numerous specials. Set in Peckham, London, the series follows Rodney and Del Boy, as well as a host of other memorable characters, in their mission to get through life and, ultimately, become rich. It’s mesmerizing stuff full of sharp humor, as anyone who’s seen it will tell you.

The remake will be for ABC and written by Scrubs writers Steven Cragg and Brian Bradley. But it’s not the first time ‘Only Fools and Horses’ has been remade, with Wat Schuift’t? in The Netherlands and Brat Bratu in Slovenia using the original template.

British comedies have done well when remade for an American audience, ‘The Office’ being a prime example. In fact, Steve Carell, from ‘ The Office ‘ has already expressed interest:

“The British do sitcoms better than anybody else in the world. I think with the right scriptwriters and cast we could do Only Fools and Horses justice. If anybody wants to help me do a remake I’d love it.”

It is said that Jason Biggs is favorite to play Rodney and Robin Williams could well be Uncle Albert. I can quite imagine Robin Williams going wild with the opportunity. As provided by The Daily Mail , here are some expressions that may need translating for the US version:

Plonker – tool Lovely jubby – awesome Dipstick – schmuck Wally – dope Geezer – dude Bird – babe Perfect – ace Terrific – neat Easy money – pure gravy Pound – book Boozer – joint Cushty – all good Pukka – primo
