If you have ever wondered how it would feel to live on the International Space Station or float about in zero gravity, NASA has some very good news for you. The US Space agency is on its way to launching the first television channel dedicated fully to space.

According to New York Daily News , NASA has announced its plans to launch a 4K television channel in November , which will not only be responsible for bringing ultra high definition footage of everyday life on the ISS directly to your living rooms, but will also broadcast the wealth of high resolution content that NASA has at its disposal.

NASA released the following statement on their YouTube page , reiterating its commitment to make space exploration more accessible to the general public.

“This important new capability will allow researchers to acquire high resolution – high frame rate video to provide new insight into the vast array of experiments taking place every day. It will also bestow the most breathtaking views of planet Earth and space station activities ever acquired for consumption by those still dreaming of making the trip to outer space.”

NASA’s TV channel is being billed as the first consumer UHD channel in North America. It won’t be long before you can see astronauts eating lettuce aboard the ISS, or if you are more inclined to science, you can probably tune in to watch slow motion videos of its shuttle launches. Other than the traditional media of cable and satellite, the channel will also stream via the internet. Regardless of where you live in the world, the possibilities remain endless.

Nature World reports that NASA is launching the TV channel in association with Harmonic, a worldwide video delivery system, which is all beefed up to provide the technical infrastructure for the channel. Peter Alexander, the chief marketing officer at Harmonic, expressed his delight at the alliance with NASA.

“As NASA reaches new heights and reveals the unknown, the NASA TV UHD channel can bring that journey to life in every home. And as organizations at the forefront of innovation, together we are leading the adoption of this exciting technology.”

NASA’s TV channel will use an end-to-end video delivery system, and will boast the capability to deliver linear 2160p60 video content, allowing viewers everywhere to enjoy footage on a wide range of television and internet-connected devices.

Space will not be as far come November, thanks to NASA.
