Microsoft revealed what’s on tap for the Games with Gold promotion in November. Xbox Live Gold subscribers will receive a brand new Indie title for the Xbox One plus Rare’s charming animal life simulation and the open-world Red Faction shooter, set on Mars.

The ID@Xbox program is bringing Volgarr: The Viking to the Xbox One on November 1st for $9.99 or free for Xbox Live Gold subscribers. This is an old-school two-button hack-and-slash platformer that was made to be difficult. However, it won’t be available to everyone. Germany, Russia, Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand and Brazil will receive the full version of Powerstar Golf instead.

The PC version of Volgarr garnered a 76 Metacritic score . It appears to have earned that score on the back of its brutal difficulty, so be prepared. The 16-bit graphics is intentionally retro so it will be one of those things you’ll either love or hate.

Over on the Xbox 360 side, Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise will be available from November 1st – 15th. It’s a 2008 sequel to the original game that adds more piñatas and multiplayer support to the cute yet challenging life simulator. Interestingly, this is the first Rare title that’s been made available for Games with Gold since the program started in June 2013.

It will be followed by Red Faction: Guerrilla on November 16th through the end of the month. This 2009 title is the second to last game in the Red Faction series and the first to be set in an open-world. It received a solid Metacritic score of 85 and is worth checking out if you haven’t before. Also, it lets you hit people with an ostrich.

This selection of Games with Gold titles for November continues the same setup from October’s selection of games ; an indie title for the Xbox One plus two older but good retail Xbox 360 games. The PlayStation Plus free game line-up is filled with indie titles in November for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PS Vita for those wondering. It’s no surprise that both free game programs are going with either indie or older titles for a huge new game month like November.

How do you think November’s free Games with Gold titles for the Xbox One and Xbox 360 shape up? Worth checking out for the low price of free or will you be spending your time with the new game releases? Sound off in the comments below.
