Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder To Work Together Again For ‘Vampire Diaries’ Finale–Duo Set To Join ‘Originals’? [Spoilers]

After Nina Dobrev left the hit CW show, The Vampire Diaries , their numbers hit new lows , according to Sports Rageous . Now, Dobrev is rumored to appear for the finale.

Nina left the show at the end of Season 6, when Elena (Dobrev) was spelled into a Sleeping Beauty-like nap by Kai. Her sleep was linked to Bonnie’s life, which meant that Damon (Ian Somerhalder) has been left with a good 60 plus years before he sees his girlfriend again.

Episode 15, “I Would For You,” was aired on March 4, 2016, and has addressed the Damon/Bonnie/Elena problem. In the episode, Damon asks Bonnie (Kat Graham) to help him nap for approximately 60 years; he cannot live without Elena and blames himself for her fate.

Julie Plec, the executive producer for the show, said that she hopes that the show will continue on to an eighth season, as The Inquisitrrecently reported.

“Plec explained how she now realizes that show’s fate is intertwined with the desire of Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley to remain a part of the action. Apparently, Plec is willing to continue the series as long as the two leads stay on board.”

The Inquisitr said that fans should be encouraged by this, since it means that the show’s ending–when it comes–hopefully will not seem forced or abrupt.

“Whenever Somerhalder and Wesley decide that their characters have run their course, Plec promised that they would get together and write a fitting end.”

Despite her hopes, Ian Somerhalder has now left the show quietly , as his character waits for a time when he and Elena may be together again. This begs the question: will Season 7 mark the end of the well-loved series?

As committed viewers know, The Vampire Diaries has never failed to provide us with surprise deaths. The more shocking, the better. Of course, this is probably because they don’t seem to have any problems resurrecting dead characters. After all, the show is positively notorious for this.

But going for Elena this time around may have been too far.

“‘Things We Lost in the Fire’ proved to be particularly devastating, given that Damon burned Elena’s body during yet another unfortunately timed Phoenix Stone hallucination,” Bustle said . “[But] even if it was Elena’s body that was being burnt to a crisp, that doesn’t mean the characters won’t find some magical solution that’ll help restore Elena to her usual form.”

Could the coffin have been a replica? Could Elena still be alive? If not, is there a chance that she can be brought back? Let’s be honest. This is The Vampire Diaries –anything is possible.

Fans are hoping that with the end of the show inevitably approaching, Nina Dobrev will resume her beloved role as Elena Gilbert, and that she and her long lost love, Damon, will finally get the ending they deserve.

Entertainment Weeklyreported that Julie Plec confirmed that Dobrev wants to come backfor the finale.

“Nina has always said that if there’s something for her to do in the series finale that she will be there to do it. When she left, she said, ‘I want to see this character to its end at the end of the show, so I can’t wait to come back and put her to bed again.’”

Theories and rumors are also flying about the dynamic duo joining the cast of The Originals , a spin-off from The Vampire Diaries .

Dobrev, however, may not want this type of media attention at this point in her career. Nina has been cast for a role in Vin Diesel’s upcoming movie, xXx: The Return of Xander Cage . The actress has always been known not only for her role in The Vampire Diaries , but for her off-screen relationships, including that with her ex and previous co-star, Ian Somerhalder. Instead of being merely a topic of romance rumors, Dobrev wants to focus on her on-screen reputation.
