NFL rumors have been swirling around Brock Osweiler since Peyton Manning recaptured the starting quarterback position for the Denver Broncos. Since Osweiler was set to become a free agent, the belief was that he and his agent would seek out a team that would be fully committed to Brock. According to NFL.com , the Houston Texans have become a strong candidate to steal Osweiler away from the Broncos.

When Peyton Manning struggled during the beginning part of the season, many in the NFL believed that his career was over. When Brock Osweiler took over and won some games for the Denver Broncos, many felt that a new era had been started. By the end of the season, it was Manning who was hoisting the Vince Lombardi Trophy in celebration after leading the Broncos to a shocking victory over the Carolina Panthers in the Super Bowl.

Now that Peyton Manning has decided to retire from the NFL, the Denver Broncos started looking towards the future. With a lot of uncertainty in free agency and the upcoming NFL Draft, Broncos president John Elway felt that it was best to lock down Brock Osweiler to a multiple year contract. Being a former quarterback himself, Elway knew for sure that he did not want Denver to go into the following season without having a starter in place.

Feeling that the Denver Broncos weren’t fully committed to him, Brock Osweiler decided to do what was best for himself. He sought out other NFL teams to see what opportunities were available. Free agency is a period in time where executives and coaches do their best to make players feel like they’re wanted and needed. The Houston Texans are going to do and say everything they can to convince Osweiler that switching teams is the best thing for his career.

Signing Brock Osweiler could be the best thing to happen to the Houston Texans. The team made it to the NFL Playoffs last season despite receiving minimal production from the quarterback position. Brian Hoyer, Ryan Mallett, TJ Yates and Brandon Weeden all failed to capture the starting job, leaving fans to wonder what the Texans could have achieved if they had a competent thrower like Osweiler underneath the center. JJ Watt and Houston defense can be that dominant at times.

Brock Osweiler would be the best quarterback for the Houston Texans since Matt Schaub, the beloved starter who ended up losing his job because his confidence was taken away from him. Texans head coach Bill O’Brien doesn’t need Osweiler to come to Houston to win games. He just needs Brock to come in and manage the game, something that Osweiler proved capable of during the stretch where he replaced Peyton Manning.

Losing Brock Osweiler would really hurt the Denver Broncos. It’s very unlikely that Peyton Manning would change his mind about retirement. Trevor Siemian has very little experience, and the Broncos don’t expect him to be able to start right away. Kirk Cousins and Sam Bradford have been locked down by the Washington Redskins and Philadelphia Eagles respectively, while Colin Kaepernick and Robert Griffin III are question marks.

The NFL is a cutthroat business because executives and coaches have to do what is best for their organizations. That means that players often do the same thing. Brock Osweiler has to capitalize on a good opportunity to make money. If the Houston Texans offer him more money, then he may consider signing with them. If they offer him a better chance at winning and extending his career in the National Football League, then he will likely jump on that opportunity.
