A newlywed blogger’s post has gone viral after he admitted that marriage is not for him, even though he has been married to wife for only a year and a half.

Seth Adam Smith entitled the piece, “Marriage is not for you,” before using the opening sentence to admit, “Having been married only a year and a half, I’ve recently come to the conclusion that marriage isn’t for me.” The other startling thing revelation is that his wife agrees with his sentiments too.

However, Smith’s post is a tad misleading, as it actually goes on to state that marriage is not only about him, but it’s also about his wife and their families. Smith’s blog has clearly resonated with readers and internet users though, because it has now, reportedly, been read over four million times.

Various social media users , across Facebook and Twitter, have since repeatedly clicked on Smith’s intriguing title.

Smith continues, “No, a true marriage [and true love] is never about you. It’s about the person you love, their wants, their needs, their hopes, and their dreams. Selfishness demands, ‘What’s in it for me?’”

Smith and his wife were friends for a decade before they finally decided to take their relationship to the next level. The, a year and a half ago, they got married.

The blogger explained, “The nearer Kim and I approached the decision to marry, the more I was filled with a paralyzing fear. Was I ready? Was I making the right choice? Was Kim the right person to marry? Would she make me happy?”

However, it was Smith’s father who crystalized the situation for his son. He took Smith aside and told him, “Seth, you’re being totally selfish. So I’m going to make this really simple: marriage isn’t for you. You don’t marry to make yourself happy, you marry to make someone else happy.”

Smith Snr. then continued, “More than that, your marriage isn’t for yourself, you’re marrying for a family. Not just for the in-laws and all of that nonsense, but for your future children. Who do you want to help your raise them? Who do you want to influence them? Marriage isn’t for you. It’s not about you. Marriage is about the person you married.”

Various users have since praised Smith’s piece, and the blogger and editor-in-chief of ForwardWalking.com, has admitted that he has thought back to his father’s words throughout the first year of his marriage.

Do you agree with Seth Adam Smith’s marriage thoughts?
