New York Jets Still Skirmishing With One Another

The players on the New York Jets are still behaving like children, and on Sunday head coach Todd Bowles had had enough. After two shoving matches during practice, Bowles had the Jets do some extra running in the heat. The Associated Press is reporting that Bowles wants the Jets to be competitive during practice, but under control .

”We’re not trying to hurt each other. At the end of the day, we all need each other, but it’s a fine line. The mess-talking, the bravado and swagger and everything is fine, but you have to understand situational football at the same time. You can’t fight and be braggadocious and be loud if you don’t understand what’s going on in the game. That makes for a dumb player and we are not trying to have dumb players.”

As reported by the Inquisitr earlier this week, a locker room fight caused one player to be cut, Ikemefuna Enemkpali, and one player, Geno Smith, to be sidelined for 6-10 week with a broken jaw. You would think the players would be on their best behavior after that mess, but you would be wrong. Remember these are the New York Jets we are talking about.

Tussle number one featured Breno Giacomini and Quinton Coples. The second scuffle was headlined by Dalton Freeman and Jason Babin. Those four and the rest of the team got to get a little workout after practicing in the heat by running sideline to sideline five times.

The headaches for Bowles did not end there as he had to deal with the Smith situation yet again. This time Geno decided it was okay for him to throw the pigskin around with a buddy at his apartment complex. This coming just two days after the quarterback had surgery on his broken jaw. ESPN is reporting that the Jets passer was informed by Bowles that he was not supposed to be doing anything physical .

“He shouldn’t be doing it right now. We handled that internally. We had that discussion.”

Smith going against the orders of doctors and the Jets is just another example of his immaturity. This is Geno’s third season with the Jets, and if he doesn’t show them something soon, it just may be his last.

Even under a new head coach, it appears the New York Jets are still going to be the same kind of team, more interesting for what they do off the field than what they do at game time. It is nice to see that there are some things you can still count on.
