The New York Giants and quarterback Eli Manning are finalizing a four-year contract extension worth $84 million. According to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen , the deal has been agreed upon for at least one week.

According to the report, Manning is scheduled to make $17.5 million for 2015, the last year of his current contract with the Giants. Manning’s next five years will end with a total value just over $100 million.

Eli Manning most recently commented on the contract on Thursday and did not confirm the agreement.

“It’s not done yet. Hopefully it gets done very soon, and I can worry about football and not have to deal with this.”

Rumors circulated earlier this year that Eli Manning might be starting his final NFL season with the Giants. Thursday’s reports indicate the opposite. It is now more likely that the two-time Super Bowl champion will finish his career where he started, in New York City. Manning is currently 34-years-old and will be 39 when his new deal expires.

New York Daily News Columnist Ralph Vacchiano chimed in today to indicate the New York Giants organization is very happy to get the deal finalized.

“Instead of going on a lengthy, frustrating search for their next franchise quarterback, they will ensure that they can enjoy what Manning can do until 2019.”

ESPN’s Dan Graziano also tweeted that while the deal between Manning and the Giants totals $84 million, $68.1 million of that is guaranteed, often the most important number in any NFL contract. Manning will also receive a $31 million signing bonus

The NFL remains the only major sports league in the United States where players do not have guaranteed contracts.

Eli Manning leads the New York Giants onto the field Sunday night against their NFC East rival Dallas Cowboys. Manning does so after his 2014 campaign yielded its best results since 2011 with 4,410 passing yards and 30 touchdowns against 14 interceptions.
