The new video game releases for the week of November 23, 2014 give us a bit of a breather to catch up on the deluge of games that launched last week, which you can see in the Inquisitr’s weekly column .

With no major AAA releases for the week, the stage is filled with a good deal of indie games to tempt you if you decided to skip past the AAA circus of last week. Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth is one of the bigger releases and is another spinoff in the Persona franchise, which is itself a spinoff of the Megami Tensei series that dates back as far as September 11, 1987. The Persona spinoff features individuals who can summon manifestations of their psyche, otherwise known as Personas, into a physical being. The series gained a strong, almost cult-like following after Persona 3 , in which elements of simulation were introduced. This included managing a normal high school life while fostering in game relationships with the young protagonists.

The arrival of Persona Q on the 3DS will mark the first entry of the series on the on the Nintendo handheld console. Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth combines the characters from Persona 3 and Persona 4 while using a deeper dungeon crawler mechanic, which some have compared to another Atlus game, Etrian Odyssey . Choices the player makes as either a character from Persona 3 or Persona 4 will affect the flow of the game, according to a video analyzed by Siliconera .

Thomas Was Alone is another indie darling that made a splash on the PS Vita and PlayStation 3 in April of 2013. The game features Thomas, an AI entity represented by a simple red rectangle. Other polygon shapes are introduced that have different abilities, which enable the player to solve the puzzle levels that ramp up in difficulty. The entire game is given a comedic narration by Danny Wallace (Shaun Hastings in the Assassin’s Creed series). Thomas Was Alone makes its debut on the PlayStation 4 and the Wii U this week.
