Consumer NAS systems seems to be going the way of Netbooks, in that once one company jumped in, everyone and their mother decided to offer one. Now NetGear has jumped on the consumer NAS market with a 1TB unit of their own, simply named the “Stora.”
Netgear has been fairly successful in the business NAS market over the last few years and their new NetGear Stora unit is basically a “dumbed down” version of those systems. Stora was built with online cataloging in mind, including the companies MyStora.com web location which allows users to access their files via an FTP Client.
The Netgear Stora is Mac, Linux and Windows compatible and according to Engadget can “double as an iTunes or DLNA server.” The unit also ships with a two-bay configuration which is auto-set to mirror data.
The MS2110 model is shipping for $229 and features a single 1TB drive. There is also an optional service being touted by Netgear which supports third party integration services such as mobile phones and Flickr. Users can purchase the additional service for $19.99, while a 30 day free trial period is also offered.
