Android has no sign of slowing down any time soon. From research done by the Guardian, their data suggests some 42 Million devices were activated in December. Not only that, but of the 42 Million, 1.7 Million were Google’s latest flagship smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
Not bad at all for a new smartphone and with reviews stacking up quite well for the Nexus, those sales are sure to keep flowing in. Although almost 50 Million Android devices activated in one month sounds great, it’s actually a bit low believe it or not.
The Guardian has more details as to why that number is in fact low:
“But Benedict Evans, an analyst with Enders Analysis, puts the figure for total devices activated rather lower: “Google disclosed 200m activated devices in the second week of November, and Andy Rubin tweeted that there was a run rate of 700,000 daily activations on 21 December. A straight multiplication gets to 230m or so activated devices today – not a very good number (at all!) but better than nothing,” he notes in a blogpost.”
One would think that December being Christmas and the holidays, would rack up the most new purchases, however, that doesn’t seem to be the case. All of this talk aside, 42 Million is still a great number and we will only see this improve as more phones, tablets, and better Android integrated devices roll out into the marketplace in 2012.
With CES right around the corner, we’re sure to see a lot of what’s cooking up in that part of the industry.
