Adrian Dantley, a member of the NBA Hall Of Fame who played for 15 seasons, now works as a crossing guard in his hometown of Silver Spring, Maryland.

However, Dantley, who represented the United States of America at the 1975 Montreal Olympics, says that he does the job because he likes to help the children in his neighborhood.

The 58-year-old told wtop.com , “All I do is work out and lift weights all the time. I was in the weight room and a couple of guys were talking saying, ‘Man, I tell you what’s a good job? A couple of my friends’ wives they’re crossing guards’.”

The athlete then added, “So I heard them and I said, ‘That’s something I want to do’.” Dantley also admitted that the attractive health care benefits that come hand-in-hand with the $14,685.50 a year salary were also an added incentive for the role.

He has been known to dish out encouragement and high fives to the children that he helps cross the road.

Dantley also noted that he plans to do the job for the next 20 years and prefers it to simply sitting around his home doing nothing with his days.

Previous colleagues of the basketballer have revealed that Dantley was extremely frugal with his money and that he made sure not to overspend during his time on the court.

Dantley retired from the NBA in 1991 and was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2008 after playing for the Buffalo Braves, Indiana Pacers, Los Angeles Lakers, Utah Jazz, Detroit Pistons, Dallas Mavericks, and Milwaukee Bucks during his illustrious career.

He was also selected as 1977’s NBA Rookie of the Year, and was a six time NBA All-Star. Dantley even had a short stint as the head coach of the Denver Nuggets, whilst their manager George Karl fought cancer in 2010.

What do you think of Adrian Dantley’s actions?
