MythBusters took a rather large hit when Kari, Tory, and Grant were released from the show. Fans demanded their return and created a petition to coerce the Discovery channel to at least bring Kari back. Despite the loss, MythBusters is hoping to tap into another large fanbase by tackling some of the craziest stunts from The Simpsons, including the legendary cherry bomb in the toilet stunt.

Tory, Kari, and Grant may not be part of the show, but Bart, Homer, and Marge provided integral inspiration for the upcoming The Simpsons episode of MythBusters . Entertainment Weekly spoke with Adam Savage about the upcoming episode and attempted to find out Jamie and Adam would investigate. Adam was more than happy to share.

“We set out to test Bart throwing a cherry bomb into the toilet that makes all toilets in the school act like geysers. And then there’s one [from season five’s “Sideshow Bob Roberts] in which Homer’s house is about to be destroyed by a wrecking ball and Homer places his body between the wrecking ball and the house to keep it from being destroyed.”

Jamie and Adam had hopes of doing a Simpsons themed episode since voicing characters on the long running cartoon. Both realize that the stunts they are attempting to bust are based on cartoon physics, but they scoured years of footage to find stunts that are plausible in the real world. However, as is the case of Homer stopping a wrecking ball from hitting a house, the hardest part was creating real-life dummies of the iconic cartoon characters.

“We had to make a Homer—this was the first time we made a non-human crash-test dummy because Homer is human, but he’s also a cartoon character, which means his proportions are totally not human. It’s a very elaborate process that we went through using three or four different technologies that we’ve used over the years in special effects. But there’s a weirdness to standing next to a 5’11” tall Homer Simpson proportioned correctly to the cartoon in real life, it’s really peculiar. I can’t describe it any other way than that.”

Although The Simpsons will be the focus of the first episode of the season, other iconic small screen mainstays will also get their turn. According to CNet , Breaking Bad will be revisited when the guys attempt to recreate the machine in the car sequence from the final episodes.
