A New York man is suing Facebook for half a million dollars after he says the service unfairly disabled his account and refused to answer his questions on the matter.
39-year-old Mustafa Fteja said that he was first locked out on September 24th, and since then, has not had access to the information and pictures he’d stored on the site. Fteja says money is not a motivator in bringing the suit against Facebook:
“You call, they don’t answer the phone. You write, they don’t reply,” he said – leaving him no choice but to go to court to get what he considers his property back… I lived in a communist country where people had no rights. This looks the same to me,” the Montenegro native said.
“I’m not doing this for money. I’m doing this for justice. I believe there should be some, somewhere,” he said.
And though the service is free, Fteja says he has spent considerable time storing information using Facebook. Furthermore, he alleges, his interpersonal relationships have suffered due to lack of access to his Facebook account:
“I don’t know if you’re mad at me or what’s going on,” one female friend told him in a voicemail.
In addition to the $500K he seeks, the suit requests restoration of Fteja’s Facebook account.
